Deconstructed Infatuation

I asked her why she loved him, she said it can easily be explained,

She said that affection turns to obsession and before you know it, there’s pain.

She said that he is the only hurt she’s ever known,

And to learn to be hurt by someone else seems worse than being alone.

She said her heart only knows his beat,

Her hands have only touched his cheek,

Her eyes have only seen his smile,

Her womb has only carried his child.

I asked her why she loved him, she said it can easily be explained,

She said that attraction turns to distraction and before you know it, there’s rain.

She said her tears have only been from him,

And she learned to find truth in his lies.

She said her ears have only heard his voice,

Her mind never gave her another choice,

I asked her why she loved him and why she wouldn’t leave,

I told her it’s obvious the love is gone, even a blind man could see,

I asked her if she’s seen the lipstick, the earring, the dress, the skirt.

All the items left in the car or behind the couch, there’s no way you can make this work!

I asked her about the baby, the one that wasn’t hers,

I asked her how she can lay with him, after everything she’s heard!?

She sat in silence, and didn’t make a move,

And told me that when a woman loves a man, there isn’t anything she wouldn’t do.

I asked her why she loved him and how much hurt is she willing to withstand,

She said that cheating leads to chances, and you’ll always take a chance loving a man.
