Kaytranada & Aminé Defy Gravity with KAYTRAMINÉ Album
Written by Coach Mozingo
When Kaytrananda & Aminé began teasing a joint project on social media, I immediately wanted to know all the details. I love Katranyda. I love Amine. A musical dream come true for your boy.
I musically met Kaytranada in 2018 with the release of his edition of BE YOUR GIRL. Kaytranada used his musical genius to recreate Teedra Moses song Be Your Girl from her debut album, Complex Simplicity, released on August 10, 2004. Like most of us, we continued to follow KAYTRANDA’s music career and fell increasingly in awe of being able to dance again. 99.9% released in 2016, and BUBBA released in 2019.
I musically met Aminé through my friend Arvanna (hey Arv!). She had on some tour merch from his ‘Good For You’ project. This project had the hit track "Caroline" and some notable features. Offset, Charlie Wilson and Kehlani to be exact. ANIMÉ’s talent + the features + and some production by Guy Lawrence (Disclosure) and Canadian producer Frank Dukes = AMINÉ incredible debut album.
Note: The rating is subjective and represents my opinion based on my listening experience.

Complex Magazine did a write-up maybe two or three days after the release. Which is NOT long enough to DIGEST an ALBUM in my opinion. How do you already have an opinion of the best and worst song? They asked some staff a few questions and some of the answers were outrageous. So I wrote my own article based on their questions. If Complex happens to see this, don’t get mad at me. Hire me. :)
Best song?
This project had so many beautiful moments that picking ONE song was hard! If I were forced to pick my favorite song, it would be a toss between ‘Master P’ and ‘Sossaup’. In ‘Master P’, Aminé had a bar in the song about paying for studio time with Buffalo Exchange—(like yesss, tell us that you keep pressing towards your dream. We have all been in the queue for Platos Closet lol). And Sossuap is such a sexy song. The Amaarae feature is — chef’s kiss.
Biggest skip?
Your momma.
The best thing about the album?
Music lovers all shed a tear when we hear a perfectly constructed song, —but when an ALBUM sonically slaps (slaps -(adj) to be highly impressed by something. (diverse audience translation)— it’s euphoric.
KAYTRAMINÉ told the beautiful ode to both Katraynada and AMINE’s career success. AMINE dropped Good For You, ONEPOINTFIVE, LIMBO, and TWOPOINTFIVE. Kaytranada released 99.9%, BUBBA and a host of singles. Both artists began aging traction in 2016, and have been creating HEAT since then.
Worst thing about the album?
Watch your mouth.
Biggest surprise?
I know many people are saying that Freddie Gibbs and Snoop Dogg were the biggest surprises, but for me, it wasn’t the features that surprised me. It was Kaytranda’s production genius to create beats and rhythms that kept that strong Aminé hip-hop sound. They made a JOINT album, not just an album featuring two artists (willing to debate the difference in the comments).
Final thoughts/overall first impressions?
"KAYTRAMINÉ" defies gravity. I go to a different dimension when I play it lol.
Bravo Brothers.
p.s. Aminé , send me an invoice for the New Balances 610 collab if you see this. I am not lucky with sneaker raffles. info@coachmozingo.com. I’m dead-ass.
With Realness,

p.p.s. I made a playlist based on the KAYTRAMINÉ album and both artist.
