I am because Josephine saw fit to birth Wendy and Sally Ruth saw fit to birth Cedric.

Wendy and Cedric were then chosen to birth me.

I don’t know how much further my linage goes back. Trauma and suffering confiscated stories and tales. My imagination and glimmers of richness in the bold of my knee scraps were all I had mostly.

Through the pain and protection of my parents, I was left to have conversations with myself that no one had with me, conversations about who I am.

I know depression and pride try to wrap tightly around my blood cells from what I’ve seen. I know independence and rage fill the air in my lungs from assurance I wanted to hear.

I know unconditional favor because of survival and sacrifice. I know consideration because of selflessness.

I know solitude because of freedom and I know creativity because of confinement .

I know that I’m not everyone’s cup of tea because divinity and I know unconditional compassion because of the mutability of human nature.

Things evolve and change. So must our generational emotional understanding. It’s really tough because we’re doing the work of generations before us, which can feel lonely—but please know that there are more who may understand or heal from your story.
