Soothing Sounds

With every sunrise I am learning how important it is for you to surround yourself with positivity and peace. I know that isn't the easiest thing to do, but I can give you a suggestion of where to start.

One obvious way to do that is to control the sounds around you. 

What you wake up to.

What you listen to after you are awake.

What you listen to on the way to a meeting or on the way to work.

Have you ever taken the time to analyze how music and sounds made you feel?

The feeling you get from listening to Future is completely different from the feeling you get when you listen to Daniel Caesar.

EDM gives you a different feeling from Jazz.

The bustle of city streets evokes a different emotion from the sound of ocean waves crashing.

Maybe you can simply start by listening to something calm after your alarm startles you. Or if you need to wake up to Lil' Baby, do that. But I want you to take a mental note of how music makes you feel.

...because music makes you feel.

One tape that has been on repeat comes from a good friend of mine, Vibes. He's awesome, and he released an AMAZING project called STRESS RELIEF back in August (2018).

Naturally, I had to ask him what he does to relieve stress and be calm. Here is his answer:

 “One of the main things I do to really relieve stress is pray.

Prayer is very crucial for me. Without that number one thing, I don’t know if I would be able to handle life lol ya know?

Also, I search for samples when I’m about to work on some new music. Searching for sample is very cathartic for me.

I love the process of creating. So that helps relieve stress. 

Oh one more! To help release stress, I tend to burn incense, listen to chill instrumentals, I make sure I stretch and roll one up per usual lol.”

One thing that stood out to me about his answer, is that he said that there are ways he relieves stress and there are ways he releases stress.

The two words are similar in most contexts. However, relief is usually relief from suffering, while release signifies release from being bound or imprisioned.

You can seek relief day in and day out, but true healing cannot take place until you seek release from the things that trouble you.
