I used to feel crazy for feeling so strongly about government practices, church teachings, what I was being taught in schools, everything. I’ve always been angry at systems, corporations and the kin who supported them. Always.
Every flare up, a heightened concern for those who know me. I think they know I’m not afraid to die. I’m not afraid to die protecting what I know it Gods mission. Human liberation.
My Father knows. He knows whatever he endured off of the heals of the Silent Generation. His own upbringing. What he saw. What he did or didn’t do. Lives in me. All of my People live in me. It’s why he calls during civil unrest. It’s why he allows me to cry at injustice but not too long. It’s why he gave me books and affirmed my Blackness. He little revolution in easing me to be educated and curious. But he still fears. And I understand.
I know what history says. And I know what history says. And that’s why I’ll continue to write. Create. Paint. Cry. Organize. Learn. Demand. Uplift. Care. Dream. Love.
No matter what.
I will Love.
Because Compassion is my gospel.
